‘Dogs Can’t Hold Off Avila

Kansas City, Mo. – Despite holding a three-run lead with two innings to play, Bulldog baseball was unable to come away with the win on Monday, losing 9-8 to Avila University; the team drops to 5-13 following their defeat.

McPherson scored two in the first inning to get off to a good start but then gave up four to the Eagles, trailing 4-2 after one.  Avila added one to their total in the second but Mac put up four in the fourth and two in the fifth to jump in front 8-5.  The two teams went scoreless for the next two innings but then AU brought around three in the bottom of the eighth to tie things up.  The Eagles completed the comeback with one run in the ninth to take the game 9-8.

MC tabulated only five hits but made it safely to first 18 total times as they drew 10 walks and were hit by three pitches.  Zach Wilson led the team in both hits and base appearances as he tallied a pair of hits and made it to first once via base on balls; he tied Tom Potter in RBIs with two.  Jordan Slaton got aboard twice by walks and crossed home plate once.

Keegan Hays started the game at the mound, throwing for four innings; he surrendered five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four.  Colter Streck came in relief and went three innings before being relieved; he allowed six hits and three earned runs.  Jordan Slaton closed out the game for Mac, picking up the loss as he gave up the game-winning run

The Bulldogs now face MidAmerica Nazarene University on Tuesday the 18th, start time for the nine-inning game is set for 1:00 p.m. in Olathe.
