Oklahoma City, Okla. – Bulldog baseball moves to 8-17 on the year after a 1-and-1 split with Mid-America Christian University on Tuesday; Mac won the first 11-8 and the Evangels took game two 11-7.
Game 1 – at Mid-America Christian Univ. – W 11-8
It was a slow start for the Bulldogs as they found themselves down 5-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning. Fortunately for MC, they saved all their runs for the end as they put 10 up on the board in the final two innings, winning 11-8.
Zach Wilson (Miliken, Colo.) and Austin Russell (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) led the charge for the 'Dogs, each going 3-of-4 from the plate with a walk as well; Wilson brought around two runs and scored once himself while Russell tabbed two RBI and two runs scored. Tom Potter (Dayton, Minn.) logged two hits while five others recorded one; the team also drew 10 walk in the game.
Keegan Hays (Salina, Kan.) started at the mound for Mac, going the first four and a third innings before being relieved; he gave up three earned runs and two unearned runs on six hits and two walks. Brant Rhoades (Burlington, Colo) finished out the fifth and threw the complete sixth, facing nine total batters; he surrendered three earned runs off of three hits and two walks. Josh Grant (Paris, Texas) finished out the game for Mac, picking up the win.
Game 2 – at Mid-America Christian Univ. – L 11-7
The second contest of the night saw runs scored in nearly each inning with McPherson jumping out to an early 2-0 lead after the first. MACU would respond with four runs in the second and three in the third to take a 7-2 advantage. The 'Dogs brought three more around in the fifth and then a pair in the sixth but could not hold back Mid-America Christian as the Evangels scored four in the final three innings, claiming the 11-7 win.
MC got on safely 12 times in game two, six via walks and six with hits including one homerun by Wilson who totaled two hits to lead the team; Seth Davenport (McPherson, Kan.) also recorded two knocks of the ball, logging a pair of singles. Jose Nossa (Valencia, Venezuela) got on twice as well, once on a hit and the other by drawing four balls. Dorian Shelton (Kansas City, Mo.) was the other Bulldog to tally a hit in McPherson's loss; he also got on twice by walks to lead the team in total base appearances.
The starting pitcher was Loren Farley (Wellington, Kan.) who went two and a third, allowing seven earned runs and picking up the loss. Colter Streck (Woodland Park, Colo.) closed out the third and pitched both the fourth and fifth innings before being relieved by Corey Taylor (Iola, Kan.) who finished out the contest; Streck gave up one run on six hits while Taylor surrendered three in his one inning of duty.
The 'Dogs are back in action on Friday the 29th as they host Ottawa University for the KCAC's baseball game of the week; the doubleheader is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. (CT)
