Winfield, Kan. – The conference season has started for the Dirt 'Dogs as they traveled to play the Southwestern College Moundbuilders on Tuesday; Mac fell 6-3 in the opening contest but rebounded with a 10-0 second game victory.

Game 1 – at Southwestern College – L 6-3

The long trip to Winfield must have had an effect on the Bulldogs as it took them five innings to get their first run on the board and by that time, they had already allowed six to SWC.  McPherson would score two more in the sixth but were not granted any more, losing 6-3.

Emily Davis (McPherson, Kan.) tallied two hits to top the team which only had five for the game; Jenna Kaiser (Billings, Mont.) also got on twice, once on a walk and the other on a run scoring triple.

Freshman Ciara Archer (Denver, Colo.) went the complete six innings for Mac from the mound, allowing all six runs off of nine hits and one walk; she also logged a couple of Ks en route to picking up the loss.

Game 2 – at Southwestern College – 10-0

The second contest was a completely different story for MC as they had their way with the Builders, scoring 10 runs and forcing the run-rule to come into effect after five innings; the 'Dogs scored one in the second, four in the third and had five in the fifth.

Leading the team in hits was Amanda Darrow (Jasper, Mo.) who tabbed three in her three at bats, all singles; the sophomore catcher crossed the plate three times as well.  Cassandra Mereno (Wichita, Kan.) recored just one hit but led the way in RBI with three.  Both Kaiser and Makenzie Frank (East Galesburg, Ill.) each logged two hits while Whitney Miller (Valley Center, Kan.) got on safely twice with a walk and a hit.  McPherson struck out just once in their 28 at bats.

Kaiser capped off her tremendous day with five solid innings of pitching, giving up just four hits and one walk while striking out two; she put away 18 of the 20 batters she faced.

It's a quick turnaround for McPherson as they now host cross-town rival Central Christian College tomorrow, March 26th at Wall Park; the two squads square off for a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m. (CT)
