Wichita, Kan. – The McPherson College Lady Bulldogs traveled to Wichita to take on NCAA D-II Newman University and conference opponent Friends University at Riverside Tennis Park on Thursday. It was a long day as the Bulldogs faced three opponents, the Newman Jets, the Friends Falcons and the Kansas wind that was gusting at 20+mph. MC came home losing to Newman 8-1 but defeating KCAC foe Friends University 9-0.
Against Newman, the Lady Bulldogs had a hard time getting anything going especially with the winds howling during the entire match. Junior Brooke Vorhess (Riverside, Calif.) came away with the lone point for the Bulldogs as she was able to defeat her opponent Taylor Jordan 6-4, 7-6.
Against the Lady Falcons, the Bulldogs dominated the match against a short-handed Friends squad; Mac started the match with a 3-0 lead thanks to point forfeits from the Falcons. McPherson swept the two doubles matches to put the score at 5-0 securing the victory before entering singles competition. In singles, the Bulldogs stayed relentless and took all the available matches without dropping a set in more than 7 games. Claire Crossman (Orange, Calif.) earned a shut out win defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
