Salina, Kan. – The McPherson College Lady Bulldogs, fresh off their win against Bethel College, traveled to Salina to meet the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Tuesday. MC came out of the gate quick and settled the match early to bring home a 8-1 victory to McPherson.
In doubles, the Lady 'Dogs established early leads and cruised to a 3-0 margin by sweeping the doubles points. Senior Nikki Vorhess (Riverside, Calif.) and partner Chandler Short (Edgewood, Texas) notched a pretty good win at number 3 doubles defeating their opponents by an 8-0 score.
In singles, the Bulldogs top two players of Emma Sheehan (Fullerton, Calif.) and Nikki Vorhess (Riverside, Calif.) played very stingy and handed their opponents identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Top Dog Sheehan struck first and sophomore Vorhees clenched the match with her win at number two singles. Junior Claire Crossman (Orange, Calif.) followed suit quickly after with her 6-1, 6-1 win at number five singles while teammate Brooke Vorhess (Riverside, Calif.) fought off a tough opponent to win her match 6-3, 6-1. Senior Ashley Allmon (McPherson, Kan.) scored her second singles win of the season with an impressive turn-around against her opponent Rachel Hasch. After Hasch won the first set convincingly 6-2, Allmon had a shaky start in the second set but managed to settle down to claim the second set 6-2; in the third set tie-breaker Allmon established a lead early and won the tie-break 11-9. Her win gave the Bulldogs an 8-1 victory over the Coyotes.
Up next for the Bulldogs is the only other unbeaten team in the conference in Ottawa University. The Bulldogs will host the Braves at McPherson High School on Thursday, April 17 beginning at 2:00 p.m. (CT). The Lady Bulldogs are set to play Central Christian following that match at 7:00 p.m.
