McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College Lady Bulldog pulled off a remarkable feet this past week, going 4-0 in their last four matches and also capturing their first KCAC Regular Season title since 1977. In their four matches in five days, MC surrendered just three matches out of 36.
On Thursday against a much improved Ottawa University, the Lady 'Dogs met heavy resistance early from all three of the doubles teams. It took some time, but eventually Mac was able to pull away from the Braves and sweep the doubles points giving them a commanding 3-0 lead going into singles. In singles, Emma Sheehan (Fullerton, Calif.) and Brooke Vorhees (Riverside, Calif.) slammed the door shut as they won their singles matches convincingly to clench the match for McPherson.
Later in the day, the MC faced off with Central Christian College and established leads early and eventually swept all the matches. On Saturday against conference foe Southwestern College, the Bulldogs were surprised at number three doubles losing the point but relied on the strong play of all the other 'Dogs, managing a 7-2 victory.
In the match against Bethany College, the Lady Bulldogs really took care of business early settling the match in the first five positions played. Only Claire Crossman (Orange, Calif.) saw some trouble but was able to stay steady and defeat her opponent 7-6, 6-3 to preserve the sweep for McPherson.
The Lady Bulldogs enter the KCAC Tennis Championships as the #1 seed and will meet #4 Kansas Wesleyan University in the opening match on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Maize South High School in Wichita. The winner will face the winner of the match between #2 Bethel College and #3 Ottawa University. The tournament champion will receive an automatic berth into the NAIA National Tournament.
