Box Score McPherson, Kan. – In a game that looked to be controlled by Central Christian College, the Bulldogs of McPherson College made it a contest late but were unable to finish it out, dropping an 11-9 outing with their cross-town rivals; Mac moves to 12-23 on the season while the Tigers sit at 20-23.
Game 1 – at Central Christian College – L 11-9
After allowing nine runs over the first five innings, the Bulldogs finally woke up and were able to tie it up two innings later following a six-run fifth and three-run sixth. However, a two-run ninth inning gave Central just enough as the 'Dogs were unable to bring in a pair of stranded runners in the bottom of the final frame, giving the Tigers the 11-9 win.
McPherson completely outplayed Central offensively as they posted 15 knocks of the ball and also got on nine times by walks; MC was unable to convert the necessary runs needed and had 15 players left on base. Five different Bulldogs tabbed two hits for Mac; Dorian Shelton (Kansas City, Mo.) led the team in on-base percentage as he got aboard in four of his five at bats.
Keegan Hays (Salina, Kan.) started things at the mound for MC and went two and a third before he was relieved by Nolan Huelsmann (Goddard, Kan.); Hays logged eight runs allowed, four that were earned, off of four hits and three walks. Traditionally a starter, Huelsmann threw for two and two-thirds, surrendering one earned run on five hits. Seth Sterling (McPherson, Kan.)pitched the sixth and seventh inning, giving up just one hit in the seven batters faced. Brant Rhoades (Burlington, Colo) finished up the night for the 'Dogs, allowing the two winning runs, recording the loss.
Mac's next competition is slated for April 11th at Light Capital Diamonds against the Falcons of Friends University; start time for the KCAC doubleheader is set for 5:00 p.m. (CT)
