Box Score McPherson, Kan. – It was an up and down match for MC women's soccer as they fell 7-2 to No. 24 Benedictine College on Thursday night in their opening contest of 2014.
The nationally ranked Ravens came out and scored within the first 10 minutes but McPherson answered with a goal of their own courtesy of Rhea Vale to tie things up mid-way through the half. Following several substitutions, Benedictine got hot and scored three times in 10 minutes to head into half leading 4-1.
In the second, the Lady Ravens stayed hot and scored twice in the opening minutes. Mac's Cydney Lewis put one past the keeper in the 61st minute but the Bulldogs couldn't get on a roll, failing to score the rest of the way.
The Lady 'Dogs recorded just three shots in the loss but placed all three on frame; Vale, Lewis, and Heather Diamond each tallied a shot on goal.
Sophomore goalie Caitlyn Blagrave played the complete 90 between the pipes for McPherson, saving seven balls but allowing the seven goals.
MC next heads to Colorado for a pair of games, playing Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) on the 31st and Johnson & Wales University (Colo.) on September 1st. The team is back at home on the 6th when they face Midland University (Neb.) with the game starting at 12:30 p.m. (CT)
