Box Score Denver, Colo. – McPherson got up early but could not hold off a late charge by the Johnson & Wales women's soccer team and after 110 minutes of play, the two sides ended dead even at 1-1.
The teams went at each other early and often with neither goalie giving way until finally the Lady 'Dogs got on the board as Rhea Vale headed in a Breelyn Petty corner kick in the 33rd minute. Mac continued to shell the J&W goal but couldn't get any to go in so they took their 1-0 lead into the break.
The second half went much like the first with both squads taking multiple shots at the opposing team's goalie. MC held their one-goal lead most of the way but the attacking of Johnson & Wales finally prevailed as they scored in the 87th minute. It didn't help that the Lady Bulldogs played with just 10 players in the final few minutes as Heather Diamond received a red card in the 83rd minute.
On to overtime and although McPherson was a man down, they tied the Wildcats in shots taken with six in the two OT periods, neither team was able to get one past the keeper and a 1-1 draw was the outcome.
Both sides took 22 total shots for the contest and Mac was able to place eight on frame. Jessica Dominguez led the team in shots taken with five and also placed a team-best three between the pipes. Gabriela Navarro and Rebekah Gallegos-Romero each took three swings at the goal, finding the keeper once.
McPherson used both their goalies in the loss with Caitlyn Blagrave getting the start and going the first half, recording four saves. Tori Verdieck saved seven balls but allowed the long J&W goal, picking up the loss.
The Lady 'Dogs are now off until the 6th when they host Midland University at 12:30 p.m. (CT) at the Kennel.
