Bulldogs Lose in Overtime to Friends 1-0

Wichita, Kan. – It was a tough way to move toe 2-2 in the KCAC as the match between the Bulldogs and Friends University went into extra time on Wednesday.  McPherson had a couple solid chances to end the game but a counter attack by the Falcons led to the game's lone goal as FU scored with 4:30 left in the first overtime.

"This was a very competitive ball game tonight," said Coach Quint.  "This was one of our better defensive performances.  Our back-line was real good tonight.  Offensively we just didn't play our game.  We got caught up playing too direct and Friends took advantage of that.  In the end, we had a goal called back due to offsides and created a couple off the bar.  Credit Friends for finishing a beautiful goal to beat us in OT."

McPherson pushed forward in the first few minutes of the match and had a couple of close calls that could have put them on the board early.  The teams traded shots in the opening period with neither able to get one past; a total of 12 shots with six on frame were taken by the two teams in the first 45.

In the second half, it turned into a very physical match as a plethora of fouls were called on both sides.  Another 14 shots, eight on target, were put up by the Bulldogs and Falcons but after 90 minutes, the score stood tied at 0-0.

Mac had a great opening attack in the first minutes of overtime and even forced a corner kick, unfortunately it was not converted.  In the game's 96th minute, Friends was able to get a ball up the sideline and then a one-touch cross was scored, ending the game at 1-0.

The Bulldogs had a very good shots to shots on goal percentage as six of their nine attempts were on target.  Nick Torres took six of his team's tries with five going on frame.  Brayam De La Cruz's lone strike was the other shot on goal for MC.

Aaron Parrott had eight saves in his 90 minutes in goal.

McPherson will host Bethel College this Saturday, October 17 for a 3:00 p.m. (CT) game at The Kennel.
