McPherson, Kan. – Starting slow was a common occurrence for the MC volleyball team on Wednesday as they played catch-up to Kansas Wesleyan University on each set. Despite making the sets close down the stretch, Mac lost the match 3-1.
The opening set of the match was one that the Bulldogs needed to forget instantly; they started the set down 9-2 and could never recover, losing 25-10. The second was a much tighter set with the teams trading points throughout; leading 23-20, Mac was able to hang on to win the set 25-23. In the third set, MC trailed 8-0; midway through the set the 'Dogs put together some runs and even tied it at 20-20 but fell 25-21. McPherson again got down early in the fourth set but were able to climb back and make a game out of it. A five-point run put the Bulldogs up 22-17; however, a 9-2 run by KWU gave them the set 26-24.
Leia Seiler tallied a team-high 13 kills on 39 attempts; she hit .282 for the night as she had just two errors. Jocelyn Cochran had nine kills while Lexi Kite tabbed eight.
Maci Schlehuber and Rhianna Smith were nearly neck-and-neck in assists but the junior out assisted the freshman by one, 20 to 19. Schlehuber also had nine digs and one service ace.
Emily Warner recorded a game-high 29 digs for the Bulldog back line.
