Bartlesville, Okla. – In their first trip to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to play KCAC newcomer Oklahoma Wesleyan University, MC struggled putting balls on the ground, making it hard to win a set. Though they came close in the second and third sets, the Bulldogs lost the match 3-0.
The home team Eagles came out hot and took a quick lead on Mac and easily coasted to the 25-12 win. In the second, McPherson got down early but battled back down the stretch, pulling the score to 21-22; OKWU scored the final three points for the 25-21 victory. The Bulldogs came out strong in the third set, taking a quick lead and then holding it for the first 10 points; a 4-0 run by Oklahoma Wesleyan put the Eagles in front. Trailing 24-19, McPherson scored four-straight but OKWU was able to prevail 25-23.
Lexi Kite and Leia Seiler each had six kills, leading the Bulldogs; Kite added an ace for a team-high seven points. Micah Murray played well on the right side for MC, logging five kills on seven swings with one error for a .571 attacking percentage; she also had a pair of block assists.
The two Mac setters were again battling for the assist title. Rhianna Smith led the way with 12 assists while Maci Schlehuber had 10.
There were not a lot of digs to be had but libero Emily Warner led the 'Dogs with her 11; Schlehuber was second with nine.
It's back at home for McPherson on Monday, October 19 as they host the Bethel College Threshers; start time for JV is set for 5:30 p.m. (CT) with varsity starting at 7:00.
