Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lady ‘Dogs Lose 1-0 Match to Bethany

Lindsborg, Kan. – After hitting their stride midseason with a four-game winning streak, the McPherson College women's soccer team is now in the midst of the wrong kind of streak, having lost three-straight to three of the top four KCAC teams.  The 1-0 loss to Bethany College on Wednesday moves Mac to 8-7 on the year and 4-4 in the KCAC, tying them for fifth in the conference standings.

"I will give credit to Bethany tonight for the effort they brought as they deserved to win the match," commented Coach Quint.

Bethany was in control in the opening minutes, taking four shots in the first 10 minutes; the final try went for the game's lone goal in the ninth minute.  The Bulldogs had a couple tries in the final goings of the first period but they were saved, leaving the score at 1-0 at the break.  McPherson attempted three shots in the game's opening 45 minutes with all going on frame.  The Swedes five shots with three on target as well.

In the second half, MC took the offensive as they shelled the Bethany goal throughout the period.  Unfortunately, none of the shots made it into the back of the net and the match ended with BC taking the contest 1-0.

The 'Dogs ended the night taking 13 total shots with four on target.  Cydney Lewis took a team-high four with a pair on goal.  Kayla Faust, Breelyn Petty, and Tessa Armstrong each attempted a pair of shots.

MC goalkeeper Sheryl Evans made eight saves in her 90 minutes in the box.

Sitting fifth in the conference with two matches to go, the final two contests of the season could play a big role in McPherson's postseason positioning; the top six teams make it to the KCAC tournament with the top two seeds earning a first round bye.  The Bulldogs will head to Winfield, Kansas to square off against the 5-10-1, 2-5-1 Moundbuilders of Southwestern College on Saturday the 31st and then host 6-9-1, 1-6-1 University of Saint Mary on Tuesday, November 3.
