Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mac Drops Tough One to Coyotes 1-0

McPherson, Kan. – Another one goal differential for McPherson men's soccer as they lost 1-0 to Kansas Wesleyan University in a rematch of last year's KCAC championship match.  The 'Dogs are now 3-6 on the year.

"That was a heavyweight match," said Coach Quint.  "Possession was pretty dead even.  They broke us down to earn their goal, and it was a nice goal.  They got in once and they scored.  When we got in, we didn't.  It's that simple.  Their keeper came up big on some saves to keep them in front.   We got better today and when we get healthy, we're going to make a run."

It was one of the most even matches of the season for the Bulldogs; the teams were nearly identical in possession.  Both took five shots on goal in the opening half, KWU was fortunate that one of theirs made it into the netting as they scored the game's lone goal in the 19th minute.  The 'Dogs took all five of their shots within the next 15; two were saved, two went off target and one was blocked.  The 1-0 score line held at the halfway point of the match.

The second half nearly started with a bang for the 'Dogs as Nick Torres almost slotted one underneath the KWU goalie, unfortunately it was saved.  The shot set the tone for the rest of the period as McPherson pushed forward for nearly the entire final 45.  The match got physical down the stretch and a total of six yellow cards were handed out in the second half, four in the final 20 minutes.  Though they outshot the Coyotes, MC was held scoreless, losing the contest 1-0.

14 total shots were taken by Mac in the loss with five going on target.  Both Torres and Jesus Pescador attempted four with Torres placing two into the goalies gloves.  Pescador was one of three players that also had a shot on frame.

Aside from the one goal allowed, Aaron Parrott had an impressive game in goal for MC.  He tallied five saves in his 90 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs will host their second KCAC match of the season on Wednesday, October 7 as Tabor College comes to town for a 4:00 match at The Kennel.  It is the annual Cancer Awareness match so be sure to wear your PINK!
