McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women's soccer team had 57% of the possession on Saturday but couldn't create opportunities as they lost 3-0 to Kansas Wesleyan University. MC is now 4-4 on the year.
"Props to Kansas Wesleyan for breaking us down for three legitimate goals," said Coach Quint. "Tonight we got from our back to the start of our attacking third in possession cleanly and actually completed more passes in possession than they did but couldn't create any chances for us to score."
The Lady Coyotes were on attack mode in the opening minutes as they created multiple chances, nine minutes in, KWU scored their first goal. Kansas Wesleyan didn't let up and, after four more shot attempts put another goal in. In the waning minutes of the first period, the 'Yotes scored their third goal, heading into halftime up 3-0. KWU took 10 first half shots, put five on frame, and scored three. Mac attempted five and had two on target.
After the break, McPherson shored up their defense and began controlling the pace of play. Most of MC's possession was in the back and middle third of the field as they struggled to get things going in their attack. Mac held the Coyotes to just five total shots in the final 45 but, unfortunately, the Bulldogs were only able to take one themselves, making the final score 3-0.
Cydney Lewis and Breelyn Petty took McPherson's only two shots on frame; Lewis had two other attempts at goal go wide.
Sheryl Evans played the complete 90 minutes in goal for Mac and recorded four saves along with the three goals allowed.
The Bulldogs will hit the turf of McPherson Stadium on Wednesday night as they host Tabor College at 6:30 p.m. (CT) It is the annual Cancer Awareness match so be sure to wear your PINK!
