McPherson, Kan. – The MC volleyball team took it to the University of Saint Mary on Friday as they swept the Spires 3-0. This is the second time this season that McPherson has defeated USM who are currently seventh in the KCAC.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick lead then maintained the advantage throughout the opening set. A 7-1 run midway through the set left no doubt for MC as they rolled to the 25-16 win.
Mac came out with authority in the second set, going up 10-2. The Bulldogs continued to push and went up 2-0 after the 25-14 victory.
In the third, USM gave some resistance, trying not to get swept. With the score tied at 14, a mini-run by the 'Dogs put them over the top for the 25-21 triumph.
As a team, McPherson hit the ball very well, recording a .275 attacking percentage. Lexi Kite led the team in kills with her 12 on 30 tries; she also had nine digs and two service aces. Taryn Lee logged nine kills on 19 swings and had one solo and three block assists for a total of 11.5 points. Jessica Sanders had a nice day in the middle for Mac, tabbing seven kills.
The Bulldogs out assisted Saint Mary 40 to 23. Junior setter Maci Schlehuber led the 'Dogs in assists with 20 and also had one kill. The other setter, freshman Rhianna Smith, tallied 14 assists and recorded four digs as well.
Not only did Mac out-attack the Spires but the out-dug them as well, 54 to 46. Leading the dig department was Emily Warner who ended the night with 25. Jocelyn Cochran made it into double-digits in digs with 10; she recorded three kills in the three-set match.
McPherson's final home game of the season is next Wednesday, November 4 against Ottawa University; start time is 7:00 p.m. (CT) for the varsity and 5:30 for JV.
