McPherson, Kan. – The 2015-16 conference season is upon us and the Bulldogs begin the year with a trip to Southwestern College. Mac sits at 2-3 thus far with a team that has a lot of new faces and is still trying to find their groove.
Scouting McPherson
The 'Dogs are averaging 75.2 points a night while allowing 75.0. The team is shooting in 40.6% from the field with 23.8% from distance; they net 70.6 percent from the charity stripe. On average, Mac is grabbing 36.6 rebounds per game but have a -7.6 rebounding margin. McPherson turns the ball over 13.6 times a night while stealing back 8.6; their assists a game number sits at 11.6.
Individually, MC has three players averaging double figures in Dee Roberts, Chris Crook and Ramon Martinez. Roberts nets 14.8 points per game and leads the team in three-point buckets made with 10; he is shooting 45.8 percent from the field through the team's five games. Crook is next on the list with his 13.2 average; he has made nine from behind the arc and a team leading 15 free throws. Totaling right at 10.0 points a night is Martinez; the sophomore is making 48.7% from the floor and also has 21 boards on the year, second most for Mac. Reed Rowell leads the 'Dogs in boards with 45 for a 9.0 average; he also is scoring 7.8 points each time out.
McPherson is set to travel to North Newton, Kansas for a battle with the Threshers on November 21st starting at 7:00 p.m. (CT)
Scouting Southwestern
The Moundbuilders are a KCAC-best 5-1 this season. The team has hit over 100 points in four of their six contests with a high of 127 coming in a 40-point blowout of Bacone College. The lone loss of the year was a 91-77 defeat to College of the Ozarks in Missouri.
The only common opponent SWC and MC have both played is Manhattan Christian College. The 'Dogs beat MCC 95-63 while the Builders won 107-98 in overtime; Southwestern held the Thunder to just one point in the extra period.
Through their six games, the Moundbuilders average 106 points while allowing close to 80. The squad is making a KCAC-leading 52.8% from the floor and are counting 47.6 percent from range, also a conference high; SWC averages 11.5 threes each night. Southwestern's rebounding total reaches 45.3 on average and they have a rebounding margin of 11.7. The team tallies 18.0 assists, 11.7 turnovers, 8.3 steals, and 2.3 blocks each time they hit the court.
As has been the case for the last few years, Southwestern is led in scoring by Cameron Clark. The senior is scoring 28.0 points a game and has made a team-high 56 field goals including 19 from behind the arc; he is shooting 52.3% from the floor with an incredible 43.2% from deep. Chris Waller is second on the list with his 22.5 ppg average; he is shooting 58.1 percent from the field and has also gotten to the foul line a team second best 40 times, making 37. Lennell Monroe has only played in one game for the Builders but scored 12 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds. The final double-digit scoring player for SWC is Bryan Lipsey; he has entered the game from the bench each of the team's six games and has provided some solid outside shooting, making 16-of-30 threes in his 20-minute average.
The Moundbuilders will have their first road KCAC contest on November 21st as they travel to Sterling College.
