Winfield, Kan. – The 32-match season for the MC volleyball team is now over. The team finished the year at Southwestern College on Saturday and dropped the match 1-3. The Lady 'Dogs end the year at 7-25 overall and 2-18 in the conference.
After a back-and-forth open to the first set, SWC went on a 5-0 run and then continued to pull away, winning 25-13. McPherson jumped up 10-1 in the second set and breezed to a 25-9 victory, evening the match. The third was a tight battle; the Moundbuilders took the early lead but Mac jumped in front midway through. A couple of mini-runs by Southwestern gave them the edge as they took the set 25-21. The Builders stormed out of the gate in the fourth, leading 5-0 right off the bat; the 'Dogs pushed back but another run by SWC finished the set at 25-15.
Lexi Kite tallied a team-high 10 kills on 28 swings; she also had 10 digs and a block assist for Mac. Leia Seiler was next on the list with nine on 26 tries; the freshman tabbed four block assists as well.
Freshman setter Rhianna Smith posted 15 assists to go with her seven digs and two service aces. Junior setter Maci Schlehuber recorded 14 assists.
Emily Warner played well in the libero position for McPherson, logging 24 digs. With that number, the junior breaks the MC school record for most digs in a season with 674; the record was 672 set in 2004.
McPherson is now done for the year. The team graduates three seniors in Taryn Lee, Renee Fredrickson, and Micaela Dimmitt.
