Mac Softball Claims First Wins of 2015

McPherson, Kan. – The Lady Bulldogs won their first games of the season and also completed their first sweep of 2015 on Tuesday.  MC took down cross-town rivals Central Christian 11-3 and 10-7.

"Everybody stepped up today in some capacity," said Coach Spencer.  "We have been talking about executing with runners on and how important that is.  Today showed us that we have the ability to do it."

Game 1 – 11-3 MC

The Bulldogs came out firing on all cylinders as they put five runs up in the opening inning of the first game; the bombardment called for a CCC pitching change with just one out recorded.  MC tallied four hits and four walks in the opening frame while batting around the lineup.  Mac scored three runs in the second, another in the third, and two more in the fourth for their 11 runs.

McPherson recorded 13 hits in the day's first contest.  Whitney Miller led the 'Dogs in hits with three in her four at bats.  Both Emily Davis and Simone Donaldson tallied two knocks of the ball while five others had one; Mariah Wedel, Amanda Darrow, and McKenna Deckard each got aboard twice, once on a walk and again on a hit.

Amanda Connell pitched the complete game for the 'Dogs; she tallied three strikeouts, three walks, along with the three runs, only one was earned.

Game 2 – 10-7 MC

The second outing of the day was a much closer competition and MC had to come from behind to complete the sweep.  The Bulldogs again scored first with two runs in the first and then took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the third.  Central posted back-to-back three-run innings in the third and fourth to jump in front 7-5.  Mac saw five come across the plate in the fifth and another in the sixth to claim the 10-7 victory.

Darrow was the lone three-hit McPherson player in the second game and also got on via a walk; she had a double and the team's lone home run.  Samantha Harrity, Savannah Lewis, Deckard, and Wedel each logged a pair of hits; Wedel also earned a base on balls.

Kaylee Lozier started the game for MC and went three innings before being relieved by Mallory Fowler.  Fowler recorded the win while pitching for just one inning.  Connell entered the game in the fifth and earned a save after throwing for the final three innings.

McPherson is slated to play at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas on February 28th if the weather allows; game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. (CT)
