McPherson Drops 13-3 Contest to Eagles

Kansas City, Mo. – The Bulldogs traveled up to Avila University on Monday for a nine-inning contest against the Eagles.  The day was cut short for Mac as they lost 13-3 in just seven innings; in nine inning games, a 10-run lead is all that's needed to end the game after seven innings.

Game 1 – 13-3 Avila

McPherson had the lead after the opening frame as John Lauts brought in Seth Davenport.  After AU tied it up in the bottom of the first, the Bulldogs scored another run in the third to jump in front again; a Tom Potter single sent Reily Martin home.  Avila tied it up in the bottom of the fourth and then exploded for six in the fifth, three in the sixth, and two in the seventh to take the 13-3 victory.

Mac got aboard 13 times with Kyle McDonald leading the way hitting the ball as he went 3-of-4 on the day including a double.  Potter also got aboard three times, once on a hit, again on a walk, and a third time after getting hit by pitch.  Davenport made it safely to first twice with a hit and being hit by a pitch.

Tyler Lambert had a great first four innings for Mac as he allowed just a pair of runs on a few hits.  Things turned sour for the junior in the fifth as he allowed five run before being relieved.  Brant Rhoades closed out the inning.  Corey Taylor pitched the sixth and seventh inning.

MC will take on MidAmerica Nazarene University tomorrow, March 17 in Olathe, Kansas; start time for the single nine-inning game is set for 1:00 p.m. (CT)
