Scoring Struggles Hinder Bulldogs

Salina, Kan. – McPherson College softball was only able to muster up three runs on eight hits on Tuesday as they fell to Kansas Wesleyan University 12-3 and 17-0 in the opening games of KCAC play.

Game 1 – 12-3 Kansas Wesleyan

After allowing a run in the first inning, Mac tied it up in the top of the second.  However, a three-run bottom half of the inning by KWU, one in the third, and then seven runs in the fourth gave Kansas Wesleyan a 12-1 advantage heading into the final inning.  The Bulldogs scored a couple in the top of the fifth but it wasn't enough as lost 12-3; the Lady Coyotes scored in each one of their four innings at the plate.

MC got aboard eight times with seven being on hits.  Amanda Darrow tallied two doubles in her three at-bats.  Simone Donaldson drew the team's lone walk by getting hit by a pitch.

Mallory Fowler got the start at the mound for the 'Dogs and went three innings.  Kaylee Lozier allowed all seven KWU runs in the fourth-inning without recording an out.  Amanda Connell finished out the fourth for MC.

Game 2 – 17-0 Kansas Wesleyan

The Coyotes came to play in the second game as they scored 3+ runs in each of their four innings.  Mac had a hard time getting anybody aboard and lost 17-0.

McPherson got on base just twice in the game, once on a hit and another by getting hit.  Emily Davis logged the lone hit which was a double while Cassandra Moreno was hit by a pitch.

Connell pitched for the first three and a third innings, allowing 11 runs, eight that were earned, on 12 hits and one walk.  Lozier closed out the game, tallying the final two outs.

The Lady 'Dogs are at home for their next outing as they face 8-8 Sterling College on March 28th at Wall Park in McPherson starting at 1:00 p.m. (CT)
