Game Recap: Softball |

Bulldogs have Hitting Struggles against SC

McPherson, Kan. – On a beautiful March afternoon the McPherson College softball team did not have a beautiful set of games against Sterling College as they fell 6-2 and 15-5.  The 'Dogs are now 3-22 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

Game 1 – 6-2 Sterling College

It was not a hit-filled opening contest on Saturday as neither team was striking the ball particularly well.  Each team tabbed just one error despite a strong breeze; the Lady Warriors made the most of Mac's missed catch as they scored the game's first two runs courtesy of the mistake in the second inning.  The Bulldogs allowed another run in each of the fourth and fifth innings and then two more in the sixth to go down 6-0 heading into the seventh.  MC saw a pair of runs cross the plate in the bottom of the seventh but it was too little, too late as they lost 7-2.

Of the team's four hits, Emily Davis was responsible for two with one coming in her first at-bat and the other in her last.  Amanda Darrow and Whitney Miller each got on in the final inning.

Amanda Connell pitched the complete game for Mac, allowing just seven hits in her seven innings; the freshman logged three strikeouts in her time at the mound.

Game 2 – 15-5 Sterling College – 5 Innings

The second game of the day was cut short due to the run-rule.  SC put eight runs on the board in the first and second inning combined to take a commanding lead.  The 'Dogs took three back in the bottom of the second but then allowed another four in the third.  Sterling finished off their scoring by posting three in the fourth.  McPherson again was able to score two runs in the final inning but it wasn't enough to force the game to continue as the Lady Warriors walked away with the 15-5 victory.

Mac logged five hits and also drew four walks.  Simone Donaldson went 2-of-2 including a three-run homerun in the second; she also got aboard once via base on balls.  Davis tabbed a hit and also a walk in the loss.

Starting the second game for MC was Kaylee Lozier.  She had a rough outing as she allowed eight earned runs on nine hits in one and two-thirds innings.  Connell entered in the second and pitched the rest of the way for the Bulldogs; she earned another couple Ks.

Next Wednesday, April 1, McPherson will travel to North Newton, Kansas to take on Bethel College; start time for the DH is slated for 5:00 p.m. (CT)
