Mac held Winless in Series with Warriors

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4

McPherson, Kan. – It was a good series between Bulldog baseball and Sterling College over the weekend.  Unfortunately for Mac, they fell four times but were easily in three of the four outings.  McPherson moves to 8-34 on the year and 2-18 against the KCAC.

Friday, Game 1 – 7-5 Sterling College

In probably the most entertaining game of the series, the Warriors were the first to score as they put one up in the second.  Mac responded with a three-run third inning to jump in front 3-1.  SC answered back with two in the fourth to tie things up with three innings to play.  The 'Dogs gave up a two-run homer in the sixth but brought two around themselves in the bottom half of the inning, moving the tied game into the seventh.  Sterling again had a two-run blast that gave them a 7-5 advantage.  Sadly, MC went three-up, three-down to drop game one of the series.

McPherson tabbed eight hits and three walks in their loss.  Stephon Miller and Evan Willow each tallied a pair of hits while Jimmy Fisher, Shane VanSteenburg, and Reily Martin each got on once via a hit and another on a walk.

Ethan Dowling went six innings at the mound for MC; the freshman tallied seven strikeouts and walked just two.  Brant Rhoades recorded the final three outs for the Bulldogs.

Friday, Game 2 – 8-2 Sterling College

SC again was the first to net a run on the board as they scored one apiece in the first and second innings.  Mac got one back in the bottom of the second but surrendered three in the fourth; the team saw another run cross in their half of the fourth to put the score at 5-2 heading into the fifth.  The 'Dogs held Sterling scoreless in the next two innings but the Warriors posted three runs in the seventh to put the game to bed, 8-2.

Hits were hard to come by for MC as they logged just four in the seven-inning contest.

Loren Farley pitched for the first three innings, recording the loss after allowing four runs on two hits and six walks.  Keegan Hays threw in relief for three innings before John Lauts closed out the game.

Saturday, Game 1 – 3-1 Sterling College

Last year's ace for Sterling was at the mound for Saturday's opener and he threw well for his home crowd.  Mac was only able to tab three hits en route to the 3-1 loss.

Dylan Fontenot, VanSteenburg, and Martin were the lone MC players to net a hit in the game; Martin also got aboard via base on balls and tallied a pair of stolen bases in the loss.

Pitching for McPherson was on point as Nathan Crowe scattered seven hits and three walks through his six innings of work; he struck out four of the 25 batters he faced.

Saturday, Game 2 – 12-6

This was an ugly end to a good series for these two clubs as Sterling scored four runs in the third, three in the fourth, and five in the fifth to take a 12-0 lead into the sixth.  The Bulldogs took advantage of four-straight walks by SC to begin to put some pressure on; MC ended the inning scoring six runs to pull the score to 12-6.  The magic didn't continue into the seventh for Mac as they went scoreless, losing 12-6.

McPherson tallied seven hits and an unheard of nine walks in the final game of the series.  Miller and Fisher led the team in on-base percentage as they both got on three times; Miller had a pair of hits and a walk while Fisher drew two walks and had one hit.  Kyle McDonald also tallied a couple batted balls while Fontenot made it safely to first twice on walks.

The Bulldogs started Trevor Haycock on the mound for the fourth game of the series.  The freshman southpaw went three innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk before being relieved.  Colter Streck pitched the middle two innings, giving up eight earned runs on nine hits and two walks.  Corey Taylor closed out the game for the MC pitching staff.

Mac will "travel" to Central Christian College for their next doubleheader.  They are slated to take on the Tigers on April 14th at Light Capital Diamonds in an away series on their home field starting at 5:00 p.m. (CT)
