McPherson, Kan. – The 'Dogs were finally able to get their offense going as they logged 22 hits and 26 runs in their two-game series against the Manhattan Christian College Crusaders on Tuesday night; Mac won the opening contest 15-2 and the second 11-0.
Game 1 – 15-2 McPherson College
McPherson used a couple big innings at the start of the game to seal this one early; they scored five runs in the first and then backed that up with three in the second. After allowing a pair of unearned runs in the fourth, MC scored one in the fifth and then six in the sixth to bring the score to 15-2 which is where it finished.
The Bulldogs tallied 13 hits and six walks in the opener. Evan Willow went 3-of-4 to lead the team with three singles; the freshman also made it aboard on a walk. Both Matt Bryan and Shane VanSteenburg tabbed a pair of hits. Jimmy Fisher led the 'Dogs in RBI with his four.
Jesse Correll logged the win for Mac as he threw for the first four innings; he had three strikeouts. Treyton DeVore closed out the contest, allowing zero hits in his three innings of work.
Game 2 – 11-0 McPherson College
The Bulldogs recorded their first shutout of the season in the second game of the doubleheader. MC again scored in the opening inning as they saw two runners come across. The 'Dogs used a five-run third inning to put the game to bed as they led 7-0 heading into the fourth. Mac continued to coast to their 11-0 victory over the Crusaders.
The other Canadian had a solid second game as Bryan made up three of the team's nine hits; the junior transfer, who also got on via base on balls, tallied a pair of doubles and also had a homerun in the game. Bryce Strecker tabbed two hits with one being a double and the other a triple. Shon Pinard logged a pair of hits and scored three times as well.
Keegan Hays recorded the first win of his collegiate career; the sophomore threw for four innings and surrendered just three hits. Corey Taylor pitched for the final three innings and sat down five of the 12 MCC players he faced.
McPherson is back to KCAC play on April 10th as they host Sterling College for a doubleheader starting at 5:00 p.m. (CT) at Light Capital Diamonds.
