Thornburg vs Bethel

Women's Tennis

Bulldogs Best Braves

Ottawa, Kan. – It was a sweep but it wasn't the easiest of shutouts for the McPherson College women's tennis team as they took down Ottawa University 9-0 on Thursday to stay perfect in the KCAC; the Braves finished third last year at the KCAC championships.

"We didn't have the best of conditions for our match today" said Coach Stuckey.  "I thought that everyone played well in singles when we had everyone move up to play in a higher spot in the line-up."

The Lady 'Dogs were awarded two free points on the day as Ottawa played with just five players.  No. 3 doubles earned the first "point" of the match.  The other two double's point came more difficultly as the Vorhees sisters won 8-6 and the No. 2 doubles combo of Nikki Thornburg and Nadine Baquiran won 9-7.

Having secured three points heading into singles and being already guaranteed a point at the No. 6 position, Mac only had to win one match to claim the contest.  Nikki Vorhees was the first Lady 'Dog to finish her match as she won 6-0, 6-3 at the top position.  The other four MC competitors followed suit with Baquiran and Claire Crossman needing a third set to take their matches.

McPherson has a doubleheader at home on Saturday, April 11 as they will take on Southwestern College at 11:00 a.m. (CT) and then Hesston College later that afternoon; both matches are set to be played at the McPherson High School courts.
