Mobile, Ala. – The 2015 season came to a close for Lady Bulldog tennis as they dropped a 6-2 match to the NAIA's No. 13 Concordia University of California on Tuesday in the opening round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championships.
The Lady Eagles took a 1-0 lead after an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. It was McPherson, however, that took a 2-1 advantage into singles as the 'Dogs won at the both No. 1 and No.2 positions; Nikki Thornburg and Nadine Baquiran took No. 2 doubles 8-5 and Nikki Vorhees and Brooke Vorhees took down the NAIA's No. 10 doubles duo 8-6.
McPherson would not claim another point the rest of the match as Concordia took five out of the six singles positions; the match was called short due to an afternoon thunderstorm and so the No. 2 match was stopped early. The Lady Bulldogs went into a third set in both No. 2 and No. 3 singles but were unable to take the points; B. Vorhees led the No. 2 final set 4-3 before the match was called due to weather.
MC graduates four athletes in the No. 2, No. 4, No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles positions. Coach Stuckey will be looking to add some depth for the 2016 season.
