Oklahoma City, Okla. – A tightly played first half was anything but in the second as the Bulldog soccer team lost 5-0 to Mid-America Christian University on Saturday afternoon. The loss pushes Mac to 2-4 on the year.
"We were short-handed today and it showed," said Coach Quint. "We made some mistakes that were very uncharacteristic of our program. We have some much needed time off to heal and fix things."
The first 45 was a very even match with both teams holding possession equally and creating quality chances. Neither team was able to score until the waning minutes of the half. MACU was finally able to break through with less than a minute remaining on the clock.
At the start of the second, McPherson again had some good opportunities but could not capitalize. In the 55th minute, the Evangels doubled their advantage. Looking to score, MC pushed guys forward and Mid-America took advantage of the open field and scored three times from the 75th minute to the 79th, putting the game to bed 5-0.
McPherson attempted 13 total shots in the match with five being grabbed by the MACU goalie; they also earned five corners in the match. Nick Torres and Jesus Pescador each shot a team-high four times with three of Torres' and two of Pescador's getting saved.
Aaron Parrott earned the loss for MC in goal. The junior had 10 saves in the match.
The Bulldogs will get some much needed rest and recovery time as their next match isn't scheduled until September 27th in Omaha, Nebraska. The team will take on Jamestown University (N.D.) in a neutral site match starting at 3:00 p.m. (CT)
