McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women's soccer team took 44 total shots on Tuesday night and were able to place 22 on frame against the Manhattan Christian College Thunder. The Lady 'Dogs scored three times to take the match 3-0. Mac is now 4-1 on the year which is the best start in the program's history.
MC nearly scored a goal within the first minute of the game, setting the stage for a very exciting and offense-heavy contest. The team's first goal was placed by Belen Villegas in the 14th minute. For the next 31 minutes before the halftime buzzer, McPherson took 14 shots and had eight saved by the Thunder keeper.
Holding just a 1-0 lead at the break, the Lady 'Dogs continued to push forward and they held possession for nearly the entire final 45 minutes. The Thunder line cracked again in the 71st minute as Cydney Lewis scored from a Breelyn Petty assist. Mac continued their dominance as they kept the ball on Manhattan Christian's side of the field. The final goal of the game was slotted in by Alia Khalidi off a Kayla Faust pass with just three minutes to play, putting the final at 3-0. The Bulldogs shot the ball 25 times in the second period with 11 going on target.
Petty took 10 strikes at goal in her 90 minutes of action, seven were saved by MCC's goalie. Lewis had eight attempts with 50% on frame. Villegas shot the ball six times with three going between the pipes.
The defense gave up zero corner kicks and zero shots, leaving MC keeper Sheryl Evans to an easy victory for the 'Dogs in goal.

McPherson will next hit the road to take on Jamestown College in a neutral site match on September 27th starting at 1:00 p.m. (CT)
