McPherson, Kan. – Kills were hard to come by for the Lady Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in their match with the Friends University Lady Falcons. Mac racked up just 24 kills in the three-set contest as they fell to Friends 3-0.
The first set went back-and-forth most of the way until, after trailing 15-12, an 11-1 run by the Falcons gave them a 23-16 lead, allowing for an easy 25-15 win. In the second, Friends started the set on a 7-0 run and then ended it on an 8-1 run, winning 25-11. McPherson came out pushing in the third set and took a quick lead but a mini run by FU put the match back even. The Bulldogs struggled stringing points together down the stretch which hurt them in the long run as they fell 25-18.
Lexi Kite was the closest Bulldog to double-digit kills with her seven on 23 swings; she was just one of two players to hold a positive hitting percentage for Mac. Jessica Sanders had three kills on nine attempts for a team leading .222 kill percentage.
Maci Schlehuber was the lone setter to record 10 or more assists with her 10.
Emily Warner tallied 16 digs to lead McPherson. Rhianna Smith had seven digs and seven assists for MC.
Following their long week, three matches in six days, McPherson will take a few days off before their next outing. The team is slated to travel to Leavenworth, Kansas for a 7:00 p.m. (CT) match with the University of Saint Mary on September 30th.
