Council Bluffs, Iowa – A rough first half spelled disaster for the MC women's soccer team in their neutral site match with the Jamestown University Jimmies. Though they held possession for a good portion of the second period, the Lady 'Dogs ended up falling 2-1 on Sunday, giving them their first loss since early September. The team is now 4-2 on the year.
"It was a tale of two halves," said Coach Doug Quint. "It's hard to win a game when you don't get off the bus ready to play. We really dug ourselves a hole and against a good team you can't do that."
Jamestown scored less than eight minutes into the match and then added another in the 30th minute. At the 45-minute midway mark, the Jimmies had taken 15 shots compared to just one by the Bulldogs.
The second half was a much different story. McPherson was able to push forward and create multiple chances which also eased the pressure on the defense. MC wasn't able to score until the final minute of the match as Cydney Lewis broke free against the Jamestown backline on a Breelyn Petty pass and slotted one past the keeper. The 'Dogs never got another chance to score the equalizer, ending the match with the 2-1 defeat.
Mac ended the day taking seven total shots with four going on frame. Lewis was responsible for four shots with three on goal.
Sheryl Evans logged six saves along with the two goals in her 90 minutes in goal.
MC hits the field again on Wednesday the 30th as they cross McPherson to take on Central Christian College at 5:30 p.m. (CT)
