Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mwinga Scores Twice in 4-0 Win Over Southwestern

McPHERSON, Kan. --- David Mwinga (Santa Rosa, Calif.) scored twice and assisted on another goal as the McPherson College men's soccer team topped Southwestern College, 4-0, in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) match on Saturday at The Kennel.

The Bulldogs (10-4-1, 5-3 KCAC) wasted little time getting going offensively as Nick Torres (McPherson, Kan.) scored from 10 yards out off a cross from Mwinga in the eighth minute.

Mwinga tallied his first less than five minutes later, putting back a rebound to give McPherson a 2-0 lead. Jesus Pescador (Valencia, Calif.) was given the nod for the assist.

McPherson continued to send shots in the direction of the Southwestern goal over the middle 65 minutes of the match, but were unable to connect. Pescador finally broke through in the 78th minute, scoring off an assist from Torres on a scramble in the box to push the lead to 3-0.

Mwinga's second goal of the game came in the 84th minute off an assist from Pescador.

The Bulldogs held a commanding 27-11 edge in shots and held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks. Pescador finished with game-highs in shots (7) and shots on goal (3), while Jared Robbins (Cotati, Calif.) added five shots. Mwinga was credited with four shot - two on goal - and Torres, Brayam De La Cruz (Bellevue, Idaho) and Christopher Kelly (Glasgow, Scotland) had three apiece.

Aaron Parrott (Wichita, Kan.) recorded a clean sheet for McPherson, making six saves. Parker O'Quinn also made six saves, but allowed all four goal in a complete-game effort for Southwestern (1-10-1, 0-7-1 KCAC).

Fernando Salazar and Armando Tellez had three shots apiece for Southwestern, while Chandler Hall added two.

"I wasn't very pleased with how we played today overall but content with the result," said head coach Doug Quint. "Individually, Nick Torres and David Mwinga both had really good games offensively for us."

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday with their final road trip of the regular season. Leavenworth will be the destination and the University of Saint Mary (6-8-1, 3-4-1 KCAC), the opponent. McPherson remains in the hunt for a home KCAC quarterfinal game with three regular-season matches to play.
