Women's Basketball Routs Crosstown Rival Central Christian

McPHERSON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- Four players scored in double figures, including freshman Isabella Bacon (Sapulpa, Okla., Sapulpa HS) with a game-high 21 off the bench, to lead the McPherson College women's basketball team to an 83-51 win over crosstown rival Central Christian College at Jerry E. Alexander Arena.

The Tigers grabbed an early 7-4 lead, but the Bulldogs (3-1) responded with an 11-0 run keyed by a pair of 3-pointers by Bacon to go up 15-7 with two minutes left in the first quarter. Bacon added another trey later in the frame as McPherson led 22-11 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, both teams matched their scoring output from the first quarter with the Bulldogs outscoring the Tigers, 22-11, to take a 44-22 lead at the break. Brooklyn Coe (Corvallis, Ore., Chemeketa CC) capped the quarter by draining a pair of threes. McPherson shot 47.1 percent (16-of-34) from the field in the first half.

McPherson outscored Central Christian, 27-17, in the third quarter as the Bulldogs shot nearly 60 percent (11-of-19; 57.9 percent) from the field. Coe, Bacon and Kristina Battle (Houston, Texas, Austin HS) each had six points in the quarter, which was capped off with another Bacon 3-pointer to put McPherson up 32 at 71-39 headed to the fourth quarter.

Bacon kicked off the fourth quarter with a three and added another near the midway mark as the Bulldogs continued to build their lead. Danielle Holt's (Glenpool, Okla., Glenpool HS) layup with 2:33 put McPherson up 42 points - its largest lead of the game - at 83-41. The hosts closed the game with a small rally, scoring the last 10 points of the contest.

Bacon finished with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 7-of-10 from 3-point range to the MC single-game mark set by Crystal Thomas on January 10, 2005 - also against Central Christian. Coe added 18 points and five rebounds, while Cami Richardson (Hesston, Kan., Hesston HS) added 10 points, seven boards, four assists and a steal. Holt posted only seven points but pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.

Brooke Racette had five points, five rebounds, five assists and a steal.

Central Christian played only seven players in the game and was led by Abbie Banks and Piper Kalthoff with 14 points apiece. Banks added four rebounds, four steals and a block, while Kalthoff added three assists, a rebound and a steal.

Kelsey Grimando also made it into double-figures scoring 11 points on just 3-of-15 shooting. She also pulled down five rebounds and had four assists. Rebekah Glessner added six points and eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs return to the court Saturday evening when NAIA Division I Saint Gregory's University (2-2) pays a visit to the Sport Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
