Oklahoma City, Okla. – After a split on Saturday, the Bulldog baseball team won their lone contest on Sunday to win the weekend, 2-1; Mac defeated Hastings College on both days while losing to NAIA No. 5 Oklahoma City University in their second game on Saturday.
Saturday, Game 1 – W 5-3 vs. Hastings College
Four first-inning runs helped the Bulldogs to a 5-3 win over Hastings College in Oklahoma City on Saturday.
McPherson scored in the first on an RBI single by Matt Bryan, an error, and a two-run single by Lucas Giesey.
Tyler Bailey got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over six innings. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered nine hits.
Mac's closer Blake Ware put away the final three outs to record the save.
Saturday, Game 2 – L 11-2 at Oklahoma City University
Giesey went 3-3 at the plate, but McPherson fell 11-2 to OCU in their second game on Saturday
Oklahoma City University jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first but then went scoreless for the next four. Mac got one-run rallies in the fifth inning and the sixth; in the fifth, they scored on an RBI triple by Giesey, plating Trent Smith.
The game was never in doubt after the bottom of the sixth, however, as No. 5 Oklahoma City University scored nine runs.
Dylan Klava took the loss for the Bulldogs. He allowed eight runs in 5 1/3 innings, walked three and was unable to log a strikeout.
Sunday, Game 3 - W 3-0 vs. Hastings College
McPherson's Lane Fleming kept Hastings College off the scoreboard for all seven innings, helping the Bulldogs to a 3-0 victory. He allowed no runs on four hits while striking out three.
The lead stayed with the 'Dogs after the first, when they scored one run on an RBI single by Klava.
Mac built upon their lead with two runs in the sixth. The inning looked promising, as Reily Martin tripled, scoring Smith to kick things off. That was followed up by Bryan's single, bringing home Martin.
Smith went 2-3, with singles in the first and sixth innings.
The Bulldogs are scheduled for a cross-town rivalry game against Central Christian College on Tuesday the 23rd at 5:00 p.m. (CT) at Light Capital Diamonds.
