Game Recap: Softball |

Mac Falls Twice to Coyotes

Salina, Kan. – The McPherson College softball team had a tough time racking up hits on Tuesday as they dropped a pair of contests to Kansas Wesleyan University.

Game 1 – L 8-1

After falling behind 2-0 two innings in, the Lady 'Dogs cut their deficit in half by scoring Cassandra Moreno in the third.  Unfortunately, Mac only made it aboard twice the rest of the game.

The Coyotes plated another two runs in the fourth and then doubled their total with a four-run fifth; the team went on to win 8-1.

McPherson was held to just four hits and they drew three walk.  Both Shelby Maycumber and Moreno logged a hit and a walk.

Sydney Lang recorded the loss for MC; the freshman threw the first four innings and then came in relief in the fifth.  Katie Usdansky lasted just two-thirds of the fifth inning in game one for the Bulldogs.

Game 2 – L 14-2

The second game of the doubleheader didn't start well for Mac as they gave up five runs in the opening inning to the 'Yotes.  Things calmed down in the second and the Bulldogs put their first run on the board in the third; another run from MC in the fourth put the score at 7-2.

A big inning for Kansas Wesleyan pushed their lead to 14 and a scoreless fifth inning from McPherson ended the game after five innings at 14-2.

The Bulldogs tallied three hits in the game with Erica Almaraz leading the charge with two.

Usdansky picked up the loss after throwing for one inning; she allowed five runs on six hits.  Lang threw for two and two thirds innings with Mallory Fowler finishing the game on the mound.

The Bulldogs continue their busy week with a trip to York, Nebraska to face the York College Panthers on March 31st; start time is 2:00 p.m. (CT) for the doubleheader.
