Game Recap: Softball |

Nebraska Split for Lady ‘Dogs

York, Neb. – The McPherson College softball team went 1-1 on Thursday against York College.  Mac fell 6-4 in the opening game of the doubleheader but came back with a vengeance in the second, winning 13-3 in six innings.

Game 1 – L 6-4

It was slow going for McPherson through the first five innings as they logged just one base runner; the Panthers didn't do much either but were able to put a pair of runs on the board.

The sixth was a monster inning for both teams.  The 'Dogs  took the lead with their four-run half-inning; they tallied four hits and also took advantage of a York error.  Katie Holmes logged a three-run homerun at the tail end of the inning to put Mac up 4-2.

Sadly for MC, the Lady Panthers had a four-run inning themselves and went back up by two.  McPherson had their chances to tie the game or take the lead but ended the game on the wrong side of a 6-4 score line.

Six different Bulldogs recorded a hit with both Sydney Lang and Holmes' knocks being extra base hits.

Lang was the game's losing pitcher, throwing for the six innings; she logged four strikeouts while allowing six runs, five that were earned, on nine hits and a pair of walks.

Game 2 – W 13-3

It was an offensive explosion for the Lady 'Dogs in game two as they took down York 13-3.  The opening inning produced two runs for both teams but a four-run second by Mac put the score at 6-2; the Bulldogs went on to score three in the third, pushing their lead to 9-2.

The fourth and fifth were scoreless but another four runs by McPherson allowed them to take the game 13-3.

Emily Davis went 4-of-4 from the plate to lead the 18-hit performance for Mac; Davis also drew one of the team's three walks.  Shelby Maycumber had three hits and posted four Runs Batted In.  Five players recorded two hits in the win.

Katie Usdansky earned the win for MC with her six innings on the mound; the freshman gave up three earned runs on six hits and a walk.

After being on the road for games earlier this week, the Bulldogs will be at home on Saturday as they host Ottawa University for a 1:00 p.m. (CT) doubleheader at Wall Park.
