McPherson, Kan. – After dropping the first game of the day 8-0, McPherson College softball gave the Ottawa University Braves all they could handle in the second but fell just short, 6-5.
Game 1 – L 8-0
The first time through the lineup was not something the Bulldogs would every like to ever repeat; they struck out eight times. McPherson did better the second time they went to the plate but it wasn't enough to warrant any runs.
Ottawa scored eight with the final two coming in the seventh to take the game 8-0.
MC only put four players on base with Shelby Maycumber and Azaria Romero recording a hit, Emily Davis drawing a walk, and Katie Holmes was hit by a pitch.
Sydney Lang pitched the complete game for Mac. The freshman allowed the eight earned runs on 15 hits and three walks; she struck out three.
Game 2 – L 6-5
The second game of the series was a closer contest. The two teams split runs in the first and third but Ottawa scored two in the second to take a 4-2 lead into the fourth.
The Bulldogs had their most productive inning of the weekend in the fourth as they scored three runs on two hits and a pair of walks to take the lead 5-4. OU tied things up in the fifth and then jumped back in front 6-5 in the sixth.
McPherson had their chances in the final three innings, leaving one runner stranded in each. .
The bats worked better for Mac in the day's second contest as they had six and also recorded four walks and three hit by pitches. Davis led the team in hits with two; Holmes, Cassandra Moreno, Brittany Childs, and Katie Usdansky got on twice as well.
Usdansky went the full seven innings for the Bulldog pitching staff; she surrendered six earned runs on 10 hits and two walks.
MC is on the road for Wednesday's game next week on the 6th; they travel to North Newton, Kansas for a 2:00 p.m. (CT) doubleheader with Bethel College.
