Women's Tennis Tops Tabor, 7-2

HILLSBORO, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The No. 23 McPherson College women's tennis team opened a stretch of three consecutive road matches with a 7-2 win over Tabor College Thursday at the Hillsboro Tennis Complex.

The Bulldogs (5-2, 5-0 KCAC) took a 2-1 lead following doubles as Brittany Zipf (Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia, Emmaus College) and Besa Bwalya (Hoisington, Kan., Hoisington HS) combined for an 8-5 win over Jessica Emoto and Mandi Hiett at the No. 1 spot and Lea Striegel (Emmendingen, Germany, Albert-Schweitzer Gymnasium) and Zoë Bouwmeester (Zutphen, Netherlands, Isendoorn College) defeated Naima Mexsen and Heidi Klaassen, 8-2, at the No. 2 spot. The Bluejays (6-5, 3-2 KCAC) scored their doubles point at the No. 3 spot where Celeste Worthy and Kiana Fujoika beat Madison Hoffman (McPherson, Kan., McPherson HS) and Deiah Curtis (Great Bend, Kan., Bethany College), 8-4.

Tabor got its second point of the match at No. 1 singles where Emoto topped Zipf, 6-4, 6-2. The match featured the top-two ranked KCAC players in the most recent ITA national singles rankings with Emoto at No. 13 and Zipf at No. 14. McPherson took the remaining singles matches. Bwalya defeated Mexsen, 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot, Striegel topped Klaassen, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot and Bouwmeester beat Fujoika, 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 4 spot. Hoffman and Curtis captured wins at Nos. 5 and 6 by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively.

McPherson returns to the court at 11 a.m. Saturday morning against Bethany College (1-6, 1-4 KCAC) at Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg.
