OTTAWA, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The 23rd-ranked McPherson College women's tennis team won all six contested matches and received three forfeits en route to a 9-0 win over Ottawa University Wednesday afternoon at Forest Park.
The Bulldogs (6-2, 6-0 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference), who clinched a spot in the upcoming KCAC Tournament with the victory, accepted forfeits at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles.
McPherson's top doubles tandem of
Brittany Zipf (Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia, Emmaus College) and
Besa Bwalya (Hoisington, Kan., Hoisington HS) were tested at No. 1 doubles, needing a tiebreaker to defeat Allison Corfield and Jennifer Luedtke, 9-8 (4).
Lea Striegel (Emmendingen, Germany, Albert-Schweitzer Gymnasium) and
Zoë Bouwmeester (Zutphen, Netherlands, Isendoorn College) cruised to an 8-1 win over Shepherd and Ashlynn Good at No. 2 doubles.
With the match in hand due to the forfeits at the last two positions, the Bulldogs went on to complete the sweep. Zipf beat Corfield, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1, Bwalya topped Luedtke, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2, and Striegel beat Shepherd, 6-3, 7-6 (5), at No. 3, while Bouwmeester did not yield a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Good at No. 4.
McPherson looks to clinch a share of the league regular-season title Thursday when Kansas Wesleyan University (6-8, 3-3 KCAC) makes the short trip to McPherson. As the Coyotes will face Friends in Wichita earlier in day, the dual against McPherson is not schedule to begin until roughly 5:30 p.m. at the McPherson High School courts.
