TOPEKA, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- Top-seeded and No. 23-ranked McPherson College advanced to the championship round of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) women's tennis championship with a 5-0 win over fourth-seeded Bethel College Friday morning at the Wood Valley Racquet Club.
The Bulldogs (8-2) took control of the match early by sweeping through doubles.
Brittany Zipf (Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia, Emmaus College) and
Besa Bwalya (Hoisington, Kan., Hoisington HS) shut out Kimberly Buzbee and Jennifer Harrison at No. 1 doubles.
Lea Striegel (Emmendingen, Germany, Albert-Schweitzer Gymnasium) and
Zoë Bouwmeester (Zutphen, Netherlands, Isendoorn College) added an 8-1 win over Breanne Rogers and Mallory Meier, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles before
Deiah Curtis (Great Bend, Kan., Bethany College) and
Madison Hoffman (McPherson, Kan., McPherson HS) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win over Serena Wong and Kaci Wilson at No. 3.
McPherson closed out the match with 6-0, 6-0 wins from Lea Striegel at No. 3 and Besa Bwalya at No. 2. The Bulldogs had taken the first set in each of the unfinished matches.
The Bulldogs will face either No. 2 Southwestern or No. 3 Tabor in the KCAC Tournament final at 9 a.m. Saturday at Kossover Tennis Complex in Topeka. The tournament champion receives the KCAC's automatic berth into the NAIA Women's Tennis Championship in Mobile, Alabama.
