Bulldogs Fall 76-38 to KWU on Homecoming

By Drew Brunecz

It was homecoming for the McPherson football team, but the outcome was not as the Bulldog faithful hoped, with the Mac men losing to Kansas Wesleyan 76-38.

Unfortunately, the Coyotes were simply too much for the Bulldogs, as the number nine ranked team in the nation had no trouble with the Bulldogs. With the score being 41-10 at the half, it seems as if this was Kansas Wesleyans' game from the beginning.

The Bulldogs had 478 total yards, with 226 coming on the ground, and 252 of them coming through the air. Ed Crouch (R-Jr. Miami Gardens, Fla.) went 12-20 with 252 yards and two touchdowns, a strong outing for the starting quarterback, but just not enough against the staunch defense of the coyotes. Crouch was also the leading rusher, gathering 136 yards on 15 attempts, and scoring two touchdowns on the ground as well. The next leading rusher was Corey Davis (So. Houston, Texas), who added 74 yards on 8 attempts, getting his own touchdown as well. The leading receiver for the Bulldogs was Cullen Grabast (So. Osborne, Kan.), who had quite an afternoon, totaling 156 yards and a touchdown on only three catches.

The Coyotes seemed to have the game well in hand until the Bulldogs made a push towards the end of the third quarter, but the Coyotes put it out of reach with a couple more scores. On an afternoon where the offense did a good job of moving the ball at times, Kansas Wesleyan simply overpowered the home team.

With the loss, the Bulldogs are both 3-4 overall and in the KACE. They will travel to Hillsboro, Kan. next Saturday to take on Tabor College in the KCAC Radio Network Game of the Week. The game will take place at 1:30 PM as the Bulldogs try to snap their losing streak.
