The Bulldogs played their second conference game of the season, dropping to 0-2 after losing to Avila University, on the road Saturday, 72-57.
Â
McPherson got off to a slow start, as they were trailing the Eagles 19-5 at the end of the first quarter. Avila went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter, and the Bulldogs simply could not close the gap for the rest of the game. The second quarter was more interesting. McPherson outscored the Eagles in the quarter 15-11, but that wasn't enough to catch up to Avila and they trailed at halftime 30-20.
The Bulldogs were able to keep even for the rest of the game, but simply could not overcome the slow start. They shot better from the free throw line this game, but unfortunately, they shot poorly from the field, as they only had a .290 shooting percentage, and a .167 shooting percentage from beyond the three-point line.
Â
Brittany Roberts (So. Mansfield, Texas), did all she could, recording a double-double, with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Sonerka White (Sr. Houston, Texas) was once again the leading scorer for McPherson, scoring 13 points of her own.
Kyrstin Branscum (Fr. Gravette, Ark.) had the best game of her young career, scoring 9 points in just under 15 minutes of action.
Asya Tims (Jr. Ada, Okla.), was the leader in assists, as she recorded five total assists.
Â
The Bulldogs will try to bounce back on Tuesday, November 20, as they play Tabor College at home at 6:00 PM.
