HASTINGS, Neb. --- The No. 19-ranked McPherson College men's tennis team continued its nonconference slate Saturday, venturing northward and securing a 5-4 victory over Hastings College.
The Bulldogs (2-1) grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles as
Ahmed Lahlou (Casablanca, Morocco, Groupe Scolaire Anfa)Â and
Hector Carrillo Perales (Barcelona, Spain, Bon Salvador) defeated Adnan Mehmedovic and Carter Mason, 8-4, at the top doubles position, and the tandem of
Jacob Turley (Milton Keynes, England, Cedars Upper School) and
Andreas Huber (Forstinning, Germany, Franz-Marc-Gymnasium) grabbed an 8-5 victory at second doubles over Dakota Burns and Zach Inman. McPherson nearly made it a sweep in doubles, but
Julien Bodin (Cartagena, Spain, Las Salinas) and
Daan Coppelmans (Waalre, The Netherlands, Sint-Joriscollege Eindhoven)Â fell to Tim Fischer and Ben Petry in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (3).
In singles play, the Bulldogs picked up straight-set victories from Bodin at No.3 and Carrillo at No. 4, while Turley clinched the match victory with a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 1-0 (4) win over Burns at the No. 2 spot. The Broncos closed the gap when the Bulldogs retired at the No. 1 and No. 5 spots. The match at No. 6 singles was not started and was forfeited to Hastings.
McPherson hits the courts twice this upcoming weekend, traveling to Topeka to face Washburn at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening before returning to McPherson to host Baker University at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. The match against the Wildcats is the 2018 home opener for the Bulldogs.
