SALINA, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The 21st-ranked McPherson College men's tennis team picked up its first league win on the courts Saturday with a 7-2 victory over Kansas Wesleyan University at Salina Central High School.
The Bulldogs (4-3, 2-0 KCAC) grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles. The teams split 8-3 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 with Michael Moody and Luis Soto grabbing the win for KWU at No. 2 over
Jacob Turley (Milton Keynes, England, Cedars Upper School) and
Andreas Huber (Forstinning, Germany, Franz-Marc-Gymnasium), while
Juan Alejandro Jimenez (Pereira, Colombia, Liceo Taller San Miguel) and
James Lee (Cambridge, England, Freman College) defeated Luckian Campos and Kyle Rice at No. 3.
Ahmed Lahlou (Casablanca, Morocco, Groupe Scolaire Anfa) and
Julien Bodin (Cartagena, Spain, Las Salinas)Â put McPherson over the top with a 9-7 win over Mario Rinco and Felix Diaz at the top doubles spot.
In singles, Turley did not drop a game in a win over Campos at No. 2, while
Daan Coppelmans (Waalre, The Netherlands, Sint-Joriscollege Eindhoven) topped Shingi Chingaya, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6 and Lahlou defeated Rincon, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 to clinch the match.
Bodin added a 6-1, 7-5 win over Moody at No. 3 and Jimenez edged Diaz, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 1-0 (5) at No. 4.
The Coyotes picked up the win at No. 5 singles when Huber retired midway through the opening set.
The Bulldogs return to the court Thursday, March 29, when they make the trip to Winfield, Kansas, to face Southwestern College (6-4, 0-0 KCAC).
