EMPORIA, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The 22nd-ranked McPherson College men's tennis team remained unbeaten in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) play with an 8-1 victory over Ottawa University Tuesday afternoon at Emporia High School.
The Bulldogs (7-3, 4-0 KCAC) took a 2-1 lead after doubles as
Ahmed Lahlou (Casablanca, Morocco, Groupe Scolaire Anfa) and
Hector Carrillo Perales (Barcelona, Spain, Bon Salvador) paired for an 8-5 win over Lukas Michenka and Karlo Skvorc at the No. 1 spot and
Julien Bodin (Cartagena, Spain, Las Salinas) and
Daan Coppelmans (Waalre, The Netherlands, Sint-Joriscollege Eindhoven) took an 8-3 decision over Alejandro Romero and Mekasha Tadious at the No. 3 spot.
The Braves (10-7, 4-1 KCAC) grabbed the win at No. 2 doubles as Keiran President and Ronald Rufyikiri edged
Jacob Turley (Milton Keynes, England, Cedars Upper School) and
Andreas Huber (Forstinning, Germany, Franz-Marc-Gymnasium), 8-6.
McPherson swept all six singles matches, including five in straight sets. Juan Jimenez dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Romero at the No. 5 spot, while Lahlou dispatched Michenka, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.
Bodin, Carrillo, and Huber earned straight-set wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 6, respectively.
Turley and President split the first two sets at No. 2 singles by matching 6-2 scores, but Turley was able to grab the match victory with a 10-8 win in a match tiebreaker.
The Bulldogs return to the courts Thursday morning with a 10 a.m. match against Sterling College (2-7, 2-2 KCAC) in Lyons, Kansas.
