LYONS, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The 23rd-ranked McPherson College men's tennis team defeated Sterling College, 9-0, Thursday afternoon to remain unbeaten in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) play in advance of Sunday's showdown with rival (RV) Bethany College.
The Bulldogs (8-3, 5-0 KCAC) dominated the match, dropping just three games en route to a doubles sweep.
Ahmed Lahlou (Casablanca, Morocco, Groupe Scolaire Anfa) and
Hector Carrillo Perales (Barcelona, Spain, Bon Salvador) topped Andrew Wright and Kyler Comley at the top spot, while
Julien Bodin (Cartagena, Spain, Las Salinas) and
Daan Coppelmans (Waalre, The Netherlands, Sint-Joriscollege Eindhoven)Â paired for an 8-1 win at No. 2 and
Jacob Turley (Milton Keynes, England, Cedars Upper School) and
Andreas Huber (Forstinning, Germany, Franz-Marc-Gymnasium) shut out Dylan DeLuca and Nick McCreight at No. 3.
McPherson was equally, if not more, dominant once play turned to singles. Bodin (No. 2), Huber (No. 4) and Coppelmans (No. 5) won their matches without dropping a game, while Carrillo and
Leandro Neix Bazzanini (Itapetininga, Brazil, Colegio Objectivo)Â posted 6-1, 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 6, respectively.
The final point came from a 6-1, 6-1 win by
Juan Alejandro Jimenez (Pereira, Colombia, Liceo Taller San Miguel) over DeLuca at No. 3 singles.
Thursday's win sets up what will be, in effect, a match with the Swedes (10-0, 5-0 KCAC) for the KCAC regular season title. Bethany had a long string of KCAC regular-season titles snapped a year ago by the Bulldogs, who also went on to secure their third-straight KCAC tournament crown and trip to nationals. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the McPherson High School courts.
