NORTH NEWTON, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) --- The McPherson College men's tennis team clinched a share of its second consecutive Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) title with a 9-0 victory over Bethel College (10-6, 4-5 KCAC) Thursday afternoon at the Ward Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (11-3, 8-0 KCAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles.
Ahmed Lahlou (Casablanca, Morocco, Groupe Scolaire Anfa) and
Hector Carrillo Perales (Barcelona, Spain, Bon Salvador) paired for an 8-1 win over Ryan LaCombe and Shawn Bontrager at the No. 1 spot, while
Jacob Turley (Milton Keynes, England, Cedars Upper School) and
Andreas Huber (Forstinning, Germany, Franz-Marc-Gymnasium) won by the same score at No. 2 doubles over Gabe Johnson and Jordan Singh.
Julien Bodin (Cartagena, Spain, Las Salinas) and
Daan Coppelmans (Waalre, The Netherlands, Sint-Joriscollege Eindhoven)Â completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over Tyler and Zach Shima at No. 3.
Lahlou extended the lead to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Johnson at No. 1 singles, followed in short order by straight-set victories by Carrillo at No. 2 and Turley at No. 3. Carrillo defeated LaCombe, 6-1, 6-1, while Turley topped Tyler Shima, 6-1, 6-0.
Juan Alejandro Jimenez (Pereira, Colombia, Liceo Taller San Miguel) and Coppelmans scored 8-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively, while Huber posted an 8-1 victory over Jordon Singh at the No. 5 spot.
McPherson closes out its regular season Friday afternoon with a dual against Friends University at the Doris Coppock Tennis Courts. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
