Ottawa, KS – It was another tough night on the pitch for the McPherson College women's soccer team on Saturday. The Bulldogs were on the road, at Ottawa University, still looking for their first win of 2018. Unfortunately, the Braves were ungracious hosts, defeating the Bulldogs 6-0.
The majority of the action came in the opening 45 minutes. The Braves peppered the Bulldog goal 9 times in the first half, and connected on 5 of them. They got their first goal in the 6
th minute of the half, and then added others in the 16
th, 23
rd, 27
th, and 36
th minutes, to head into the intermission leading 5-0.
In the second half, the action was much slower, at least in terms of goals being scored. The Bulldogs gave up 6 more shots on goal to the Braves, but they were only able to make the most of just one of those opportunities. The scored their final goal in the 67
th minute of regulation.
In all, the Braves outshot the Bulldogs 23 to 5, and 15 to 5 in shots on goal. They also had the advantage in corner kicks, 6 to 3. Christi Silber (So. Simi Valley, Calif.), played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Bulldogs. She faced 15 shots on goal, turning away 9 of them.
MC head coach,
Mark Olson, summed up his teams' effort saying, "I am very proud of our teams effort tonight and on the season. We have not played a single game at full strength and tonight was no different with only three subs. I love how positive the players are and how hard they are working despite the results. Ottawa clearly deserves the National ranking they have."
With the loss, the Bulldogs find themselves at 0-9 on the year, and 0-4 in the KCAC. They will be back on the pitch this upcoming Wednesday for a matchup at home against Kansas Wesleyan University. Kickoff between the Coyotes and Bulldogs is slated for 5:00 pm.
