McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women's basketball team, fell to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes, at home on Saturday, 75-58.
It was a tough night shooting for the Bulldogs, who finished the game making just 22 of 62 shots from the floor, and 5 of 18 from beyond the arc. Wesleyan wasn't much better from the floor (24 of 62), but they made 10 of 18 threes, and were 17 of 21 from the charity stripe, which turned out two of the biggest factors in the game.
The Bulldogs trailed by 8 after the first quarter, 18-10, and at the end of the half, the deficit had grown to 12 points, 40-28. In the 3
rd quarter, the Coyotes blew the game open, outscoring the Bulldogs 21 to 11, and increasing their lead to 61-39, with 10 minute remaining. The Bulldogs won the final quarter 19 to 14, but it wasn't enough to get out of the hole they had dug for themselves over the previous 30 minutes of action.
McPherson had a pair of ladies finish the game with double figures in the scoring column.
Brooke DeLuca (Sr. Hutchinson, Kan.) was the Bulldogs' leading scorer with 12 points, while
Brittany Roberts (So. Mansfield, Texas) finished the game with 10 points.
Bulldog head coach,
Josh Nichols, succinctly summed up the night saying, "Kwu shot it well and we did not play very well, especially from a defensive standpoint."
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 7-15 overall, and 3-13 in the KCAC. They have another daunting task ahead of them on Monday evening when they welcome the Sterling College Warriors, the top team in the KCAC, to the Sport Center. The Bulldogs and Warriors are slated for a 6:00 pm tip-off.
