McPherson, Kan. – After a trio of games last week, the McPherson College men's and women's basketball teams are back in action tonight at the Sport Center, at 6:00 and 8:00 pm, hosting the Sterling College Warriors.
Every year, college basketball at all levels partners with the American Cancer Society to raise awareness for cancer research in the United States, by hosting the "Coaches vs Cancer" week. This year, that week is this week. To promote the "Coaches vs Cancer" week, college basketball coaches all over the United States will be wearing "suits and sneakers" during games this week. To kick off the week, in tonight's game with the Warriors, both coaching staffs will be wearing tennis shoes with their coaching apparel.
The Bulldog women went 1-2 in their three games last week and are now 7-15 overall on the year, and 3-13 in the KCAC. They opened the week with an outstanding performance on Monday, at home, against the Avila University Eagles. They played a complete game on both ends of the floor, and came away with a victory 82-71. On Wednesday, they went on the road to Tabor College, facing a Bluejay squad that is tied for 1
st in the KCAC and ranked 17
th nationally. The Bluejays shot lights out, and ran away with the game 75-59. The Bulldogs finished the week, hosting the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA top 25 poll. The Bulldogs were unable to slow down the high powered Coyote offense, dropping the game 75-58.
Things don't get any easier for the Bulldog women tonight. They face a Sterling team that is ranked 7
th in the nation, and tied atop the KCAC standings with Tabor. Just over a week ago, the Warriors were undefeated on the season, but faced back to back losses to last week to Tabor and Kansas Wesleyan. They bounced back this past Saturday with a 16 point victory at home, over the St. Mary Spires. The Bulldogs and Warriors met on Sterling's home court back in November. The Warriors came away with the win, 83-67. Since 2010, the Bulldogs are 5-15 overall against the Warriors. Their last win came at home on January 27
th last year.

For the Bulldog men, they wrapped up last week with a 2-1 record, and are now 9-12 overall, and 5-11 in KCAC play. They opened the week with an 82-75 win at home over the Avila University Eagles, snapping a three game losing streak. They followed Monday's win with another win on Wednesday, this time on the road at Tabor College. It was a back and forth affair all night with the Bulldogs pulling out the win on their final possession.
Josh Rivers, (Fr. Midwest City, Okla.), hit a three pointer at the buzzer, to give the Bulldogs the win 63-62. On Saturday, the Bulldogs were looking for a three game sweep, and a season sweep of the KWU Coyotes, who they beat up in Salina back in December on a last second layup by
Chamaje Barideaux (So. New Iberia, La.). Unfortunately things didn't go the way the Bulldogs anticipated, and the Coyotes escaped the Sport Center with a 77-66 win.
Tonight, the Bulldogs will face a Sterling College team that is struggling as of late. They enter tonight's game with an overall record of 3-16, and a 2-14 mark in KCAC games. They have lost 6 of their last 7 contests, and come into the Sport Center with back to back losses last week to KWU and St. Mary. The last time the Bulldogs and Warriors met was back on November 29
th. The Bulldogs came away with a 95-73 victory on the Warriors' home court. Since the 2010 season, the Warriors lead the overall series with the Bulldogs 13-9.
