Bulldogs Wrap up the Regular Season at OKWU

Bartlesville, Okla. – The McPherson College men's soccer team drooped a 5-1 decision on the road to nationally ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs trailed 4-1 at the halftime intermission, with their lone goal coming in the 24th minute off the foot of Antoine Detavernier (Fr. Brugge, Belgium) assisted by Marcus Fernandes (Jr. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). That was the lone bright spot for the Bulldogs as the rest of the action came from the home team.

The total shot and shots on goal were nearly even with the Eagles holding a slight edge, 13-11 in total shots, and an 8-6 edge in shots on frame, but it was the Eagles who made the most of their opportunities.
The Bulldog defense which has been a bit suspect down the stretch, surrendered a goal to the Eagles less than a minute into the contest, and that sort of set the tone for the rest of the match. OKWU added a second goal in the 6th minute before the Bulldogs cut the lead in half at the 24 minute mark. They tacked on two more before time ran out in the opening frame and went into the halftime intermission with a comfortable three goal lead.

In the second half the Bulldog defense shored things up a little bit, giving up just one more goal to the Eagles in the final 45 minutes. Valentin Bravo (Jr. Esparto, Calif.) got the start in goal for the Bulldogs. He faced eight shots on goal, and stopped three of them.

The loss drops the Mac men to 9-8 overall, and 7-5 in conference play, and places them fifth in the KCAC standings at the end of regular season play. Next up is the KCAC quarterfinals where the Bulldogs will be the 5th seed. They will go on the road to face the York College Panthers, who defeated them 3-1 just a week ago down in Wichita. Kickoff on Saturday is slated for 1 p.m.
